Etsy’s New Restrictions on Sex-Related Products
Learn about Etsy’s recently implemented restrictions on sex-related products, impacting sellers and buyers within the platform. Stay informed on the changes and their implications.
Etsy, a popular online marketplace for artisans and collectors, is implementing new restrictions on the types of products that can be sold on the platform. Starting July 29, certain sex toys will be banned, including penetrative items like dildos and vibrators. Additionally, any printed or visual materials meant for sexual arousal or stimulation will no longer be allowed on the site.
Furthermore, items featuring sexual slogans related to family members, such as “daddy” or “mommy,” will be prohibited. This policy change is part of Etsy’s efforts to ensure user safety on the platform.
While some sex-related products will still be permitted, such as accessories like handcuffs and harnesses, the new guidelines will require sellers to adjust their offerings to comply with the updated policy.
Etsy’s head of trust and safety, Alice Wu, emphasized the importance of these changes in a public letter. The company aims to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all users, which has led to the implementation of these more stringent guidelines.
As a result of these restrictions, some Etsy sellers may need to modify their product offerings or exit the platform altogether.
