The debate over the competition ban between Apple and the European Union is being discussed in detail. Learn about Apple’s competition issues in the EU and the legal process.
The European Union has put into effect a new competition law targeting tech giant Apple. The Digital Markets Act (DMA) of the European Union makes it mandatory for technology companies operating in the EU to comply with certain criteria. For instance, the law requires phone manufacturers to allow users to replace the battery themselves.
DMA also imposes restrictions on Apple’s artificial intelligence services. The EU wants iPhone users to be able to choose alternative services apart from Apple’s AI service. This situation brings to mind the situation Microsoft faced 20 years ago regarding Internet browsers.
Apple, however, opposes this new law of the European Union and is not willing to give up its own AI service. The company announced that it will not use Apple Intelligence in devices sold in Europe. In response to this decision, the European Union stated that Apple is resorting to limiting competition and does not want to be competitive in its products.
European Union officials responding to Apple’s stance expressed satisfaction that Apple’s AI service will not be mandatory. This shows that, in response to Apple’s decision not to send products to Europe, the EU has shown a positive attitude.
We will closely follow the developments of this competition law debate.
