US PC Market Continues to Grow Towards 2024
The US PC market continues to grow rapidly towards the year 2024. Follow the latest trends, technological developments, and innovations in the sector here.
According to the latest report from Canalys, the US PC market recorded a single-digit growth of 5% annually in the first quarter of 2024 with shipments of 14.8 million units across different brands. The analysis firm predicts that total shipments will reach 69 million units by the end of the year and expects the market to grow by another 8% in 2025, reaching 75 million units.
According to the report, the end of the lifecycle of the Windows 10 operating system will be one of the driving forces behind the increase in shipments and may push consumers and businesses towards making a new purchase. Canalys analyst Greg Davis commented on the situation, stating, “While a significant portion of the PC base still uses Windows 10, the next 4 quarters are expected to bring even stronger momentum to the refresh cycle.”
Device vendors continued to offer discounts after the holiday season, contributing to strong shipment figures at the beginning of 2024. Analysts noted that macroeconomic conditions in the US have been stable for several months, leading to increased consumer and corporate spending.
The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the PC Market
The increasing prevalence of AI-supported computers in both the Apple and Windows ecosystems seems to be another driving force that will boost shipment numbers. Computer manufacturers and partners are expected to prioritize strategies to capitalize on potential consumers looking to upgrade to premium devices and drive the US to be a leader in the adoption of AI-powered computers.
Microsoft showcased its AI-powered Copilot+ PCs last month, followed by Apple Intelligence features at WWDC 2024. Mac computers hold a significant portion of the US PC market share (14.2%) and saw a 22% growth in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year. Lenovo emerged as a winner among Windows PC manufacturers with a 22% growth, while Dell and HP saw declines in their figures. However, these two companies still hold the highest market share in this quarter.
