Russian Army Tactics in Ukraine
Explore the intricate strategies and maneuvers employed by the Russian Army in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, shedding light on their tactics and impact on the region.
In May, the Russian army suffered heavy casualties in Ukraine, with over 1,000 soldiers injured or killed daily, as reported by U.S., British, and other Western intelligence agencies. Despite these losses, Russia has been recruiting 25,000 to 30,000 new soldiers monthly, balancing the troops exiting the battlefield.
This strategy allows Russia to continue sending waves of troops to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses, reminiscent of soldiers being sent into a “meat grinder,” according to Russian troops. Commanding officers seem indifferent to the high casualty rates.
While this tactic proved successful in capturing territories like Avdiivka and Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, it faced challenges near Kharkiv this spring. The Russian army aimed to create a buffer zone along the border to impede Ukrainian offensives but failed to threaten Kharkiv directly.
Although the offensive was eventually halted by Ukrainian defenses, it achieved a key goal of President Vladimir V. Putin. The ongoing conflict showcases the brutal nature of the warfare in Ukraine.
