Israel’s Prime Minister on Gaza Conflict

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, gave an update on the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, stating that a new phase is on the horizon. He mentioned that while the intense stage of the war with Hamas is coming to a close, the overall conflict is far from over.

Netanyahu clarified that despite the easing of the intense phase, a ceasefire in Gaza is not imminent. He also hinted at a potential future conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, a key ally of Hamas.

After announcing a reduction of troops in Gaza, Netanyahu indicated a possible shift of focus towards the north. While he did not declare an invasion of Lebanon, he suggested that Israel may need to address the situation with Hezbollah diplomatically.

Although the prospects for a diplomatic resolution in Gaza remain uncertain, Netanyahu highlighted the political challenges within his coalition if the fighting were to cease without addressing the Hamas leadership. He implied that Israel’s military operation in Rafah, Gaza’s southern city, will not lead to major ground invasions in central Gaza.
