In the gaming industry, the wave of layoffs that started in 2023 is still strongly felt in 2024. Alongside layoffs, we also see major studios being shut down. In 2020, Embracer offered its studios to develop a new Red Faction game, which was approved. However, according to a report by Rock Paper Shotgun, this project, known as Project White, was canceled in its early stages.
The sequel to the Red Faction game, which was once in the concept stage by developer Fishlabs, was supposed to be similar to the 2009 game Red Faction: Guerrilla. The developer team, which also reached an agreement on sales, applied to the visual and graphic approval from the publisher studio, Plaion. According to the report, this project was presented to Plaion several times, with presentations taking place in November 2023.
The initial feedback on the project was positive, and it was believed that the green light would be given. However, due to the team presenting a fake trailer and other reasons, the project was canceled. Following this process, layoffs began at Fishlabs studio, which had taken over the development of the project. Unfortunately, after these layoffs, the project had to be shelved.
