Climate Activists Arrested for Stonehenge Incident
Several climate activists have been arrested following an incident at Stonehenge, as authorities respond to protests against environmental issues.
Climate Activists’ Arrest at Stonehenge
Two climate activists were arrested in England after they sprayed an orange powder on the monoliths at Stonehenge in an attempt to raise awareness about the climate impact of fossil fuels.
Impact on Stonehenge and Cleanup Efforts
The attack on the prehistoric site coincided with the arrival of the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The organization overseeing Stonehenge said the bright orange powder was promptly removed to prevent damage to the ancient stones and the rare lichen that grows on them. Although there was no visible damage, the cleaning process itself could have caused harm.
Arrest and Group’s Statement
The police in Wiltshire, England, arrested the two individuals who used fire extinguishers to spray the orange powder. The activists, affiliated with Just Stop Oil, called on the government to halt oil and gas extraction by 2030. They expressed their message by “decorating” Stonehenge with powder paint, aiming to draw attention to the urgent need for environmental action.
