Live Service Games and the Responsibility of Developers
Live service games enrich players’ experiences by providing continuous updates and innovations. In this content, we offer an in-depth look at the responsibilities of developers and the value they provide to players.
Thoughts on Live Service Games
Live service games are a genre that many players are familiar with today. These games, which offer online interaction and are constantly updated, are often criticized by players and face various reactions from the moment they are released. Now, Steve Sinclair, CEO of Digital Extremes, is making important statements regarding these types of games.
Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair Wants More Support for Service Games
In his statements, Steve Sinclair emphasized that developers need to have more confidence in projects in the live service field. Noting that these games are often released at an early stage, Sinclair stated:
“Many service games are released in an unfinished state, and this negatively affects the development of the game. Often, these projects face intense reactions when they are launched. Subsequently, developer teams usually pull the plug on the game and completely abandon the project. However, the situation is not that simple.”
Sinclair continued his remarks:
“Developer teams need to focus on developing their technology and providing valuable content to the community rather than discarding the game based on the reactions they receive. We are one of the exemplary teams in this regard.”
As known, Warframe, released by Digital Extremes, is one of the successful examples of live service games. This game, which made its debut in 2013, initially did not attract many players. However, over time, the developer team elevated the game to an important level and regained players’ interest by continuously supporting it with updates. For this reason, Warframe has become significantly important among live service games.
