iPhone 16 and A18 Chipset: Performance Expectations
Explore the performance expectations that the iPhone 16 will offer with the A18 chip. In this content, you will find all the details about the speed and efficiency provided by the next-generation processor, as well as user experiences.
iPhone 16 and A18 Chipset: Expectations and Realities
If you are expecting significant performance boosts from the A18 chipset in the iPhone 16, you may be disappointed. A recent Geekbench test result has revealed that the A18 scored only 3,114 in single-core and 6,666 in multi-core tests. The term ‘iPhone17,3’ indicating the iPhone 16 appears in the explanation of these results. For comparison, the average single-core score of the iPhone 15 is around 2,541, and its multi-core score is approximately 6,325. Thus, there is no revolutionary upgrade that doubles performance here.
Therefore, while a reasonable increase in single-core scores is observed this year, expecting a significant improvement in multi-core performance does not seem very likely.
Will Apple’s Promises Come True?
None of these scores seem to fully align with Apple’s claims about the chip. The company had stated that it would offer a CPU that is up to 30% faster and a GPU that is up to 40% faster compared to the A16 Bionic. Of course, in light of this, it is expected that Apple will make a statement such as “these results are obtained under specific conditions during tests.”
Looking at the current test results, it appears that the A18, which was specifically developed for artificial intelligence applications, will not actually be much more powerful than the A16 that was released two years ago. This means that AI applications on the iPhone 16 may work satisfactorily on the iPhone 15 as well. However, we know that Apple does not plan to bring Apple Intelligence to the iPhone 15.
How this situation will evolve in the future remains to be seen. There are always surprises and innovations in the tech world.
